About Iran’s Political Crisis

A nation in turmoil, demanding justice and change.

What is the current situation in Iran?

For 44 years the Iranian people have been fighting the mullahs theocracy in Iran and the country is in the midst of a deep political and social crisis. The regime faces increasing domestic unrest, fueled by decades of repression, economic mismanagement, and systemic corruption. The regime resorts to suppression and terror to hold its grip on power.

Mass protests have erupted across Iran in recent years, driven by decades of repression, economic hardship, discrimination, and lack of freedoms. The 2022 uprising, sparked by the killing of Mahsa Amini, revealed the depth of public anger—particularly among women and young people—against the regime’s oppressive policies.

The regime is responsible for mass executions, widespread censorship, political imprisonment, and the systematic persecution of religious minorities, women, and ethnic groups. Beyond its borders, it stands as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, fueling conflict and instability across the region through its aggressive and expansionist policies.

About the NCRI and MEK

Iran’s democratic alternative, uniting voices for liberty.

What is the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)?

Founded in Tehran in July 1981, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) is the most enduring democratic political coalition in Iran’s modern history. It represents a broad spectrum of opposition groups and personalities committed to ending the religious dictatorship and establishing a free, secular, and pluralistic republic in Iran.

The NCRI serves as the Parliament of the Iranian Resistance and includes members from various political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Women make up the majority of its members, reflecting the movement’s strong commitment to gender equality.

Once the current regime is overthrown, the NCRI will serve as an interim government for six months, tasked with holding free and fair elections to establish a National Legislative and Constituent Assembly.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK/PMOI) is the principal member of the NCRI and has been fighting against tyranny in Iran since 1965. The MEK has played a key role in organizing domestic resistance and global advocacy efforts for regime change and democracy.

Yes. The NCRI has received widespread support from lawmakers, human rights advocates, and political figures in the U.S., Europe, and around the world. Over 4,000 parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, 80 Nobel laureates and over 125 former world leaders issued statements supporting the 10-point plan for a democratic republic based on the separation of religion and state and gender equality
